Walker

There are two walks in Haddington and one in Aubourn and the details are as follows:-

Haddington Dovecote

This is a short linking path from Haddington village across to the footpath which runs close to the River Witham enabling a greater choice of rounds. The path goes past the medieval dovecote which has been restored to prevent further deterioration. Some of the original nest holes can still be seen. The path goes across old grassland which has a variety of ancient earthworks. The grassland is being managed sympathetically without fertilizer.

High Walks Farm near Haddington

The bridleway is suitable for horse riders and cyclists as well as walkers and enables a circular walk to be made from Haddington to Thurlby. It also crosses the footpath between Haddington and Halfway House. The northern end of the bridleway passes a field of ridge and furrow grassland which is being managed by grazing but without the use of fertilizer to maintain its botanical interest. A number of hedges on the farm are being improved by gapping-up and laying. They are also being managed to increase their value for wildlife by cutting every second or third area.
Length of walk 1.4km (0.9 miles)

Marlborough Farm near Aubourn

This path links two other permissive paths enabling a circular walk to be made from Aubourn. Part of the walk is along a farm track and part along a grass margin which has been sown with native species. The path also passes through a small wood which will increase the variety of wildlife that you may see. The farm has an extensive programme of hedge improvement with a number of grass margins. These margins provide a habitat for a variety of wildlife as well as providing the drain with a buffer against agricultural operations.
